A Staff Perspective: The Difference Highpointe Care Makes

Joining Highpointe Care has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional life.

Since becoming part of the organization, I have witnessed firsthand how meaningful community involvement can transform the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Highpointe Care is more than a service provider—it is an organization committed to helping individuals become active, valued members of their communities.

Learning in Natural Community Environments

One of the things that impressed me most was the emphasis on learning in natural community environments. Rather than limiting services to traditional settings, participants are encouraged to develop skills where they will actually use them—in workplaces, colleges, parks, businesses, community centers, and other everyday environments.

This approach allows individuals to build confidence while interacting naturally with people from all walks of life. It also helps the broader community recognize the abilities, talents, and contributions of people with disabilities.

Witnessing Remarkable Growth and Independence

Over time, I have watched participants develop remarkable independence. Some have learned to use public transportation confidently. Others have secured meaningful employment, strengthened their communication skills, and developed everyday life skills that will benefit them for years to come.

Perhaps the greatest lesson Highpointe Care has taught me is that disability does not define a person’s potential. When individuals are provided with the right opportunities, encouragement, and support, they consistently exceed expectations.

Working at Highpointe Care has transformed the way I view disability, community inclusion, and person-centered support. Every day reminds me that our work is not simply about providing services—it is about helping people discover their abilities, achieve their goals, and build lives filled with purpose, dignity, and opportunity.
